The Painted Desert PART I
I've always wanted to see the deserts of Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Colorado and the past two weeks we spent a whirlwind holiday in a small portion of the US outback. It is an wonderful world of color, texture and life. I was mesmerized by color and texture to the extent I did not concentrate much on getting photos of living beings. Birds, reptiles and mammals escaped my attention but I saw the most amazing scenes imaginable. My one regret is the small size in which I will display the photos but this is insurance against theft.The trip started by flying to Las Vegas, NV and travel by car(SUV) for two weeks exploring. On the fist day I planned to travel 123 miles to St George in Utah but 16:00 that afternoon we had not even covered 60 miles. The light was getting dim with clouds gathering in the area and it was time to move on. Showing you some of the photos taken on the first day will take many days so I will start with a few.

I had 10,000 Maniacs "In My Tribe" my senior year in college, I played it incessantly, and the Painted Desert was one of my absolute favorite songs off of that album. I was fortunate enough to see them in concert a few years after.
Anyway, I dream of seeing the desert. These photos will provide much enjoyment, and hopefully someday I can go and take pictures of my own.
Thanks for sharing this!

WOW...the photos look amazing!!! Thanks for the link.
This brings back happy memories, Maarten. I remember falling in love with these pictures. The aerials of the grand canyon are amazing.
@adventofreason - Hi Cindy, Thank you for the kind words. I was very lucky with those aerials. For once I was not sitting on the wing in the airliner, on the right side, and the windows were pristine. On top of that, it was about 2:30pm and the shadows, although present were not too long so as too disguise too much details in the canyon. Very hard to plan all that.
Stunning! I love all the blues and reds.
@craftea - Thank you, Heather.
