  • Mojave Desert: PART I

The Mojave Desert was a big surprise to us. We rented a motel room in Barstow for two nights and explored from there.

  • Blue Layers

I am always looking out for layers of Blue. I may be the only one here doing it but it always grabs my attention when it comes into view. I have not found a really great set anywhere yet but my collection is growing. Most of these were taken near Barstow, CA., and a few near Amboy, CA. Another great place to find them is on the Blue Ridge Parkway but I digress. These photos may be without artistic merit and non-nonsensical but I loooove them.

  • Venice Beach, CA

We left Santa Barbara and drove to Venice Beach. The wind was cool and the beach desolate. I have heard about Venice Beach but I guess people there don't like the cold wind. I don't blame them. We strolled to the marina and liked very much what we saw. Now this must be a great neighborhood to live in. The boats around here are of the quiet sort.

  • Santa Barbara: PART II

After dinner at the Harbor Restaurant we walked off the pier and on our way to the hotel I took these shots. Night lights are one of my favorite subjects because of the different hues emitted by the great variety of lights available. Sodium lights will have an Orange cast, Mercury a blueish and florescent lights often greenish in color although they attempt to make corrections for these nowadays. To top them all are the Neon signs which do not feature today.

  • Santa Barbara: PART I

We had to push on to Santa Barbara and although I was determined to drive along the coast we somehow found ourselves in the mountains. We passed Lake Cachuma and had wonderful views of Santa Barbara and the Channel Islands but nowhere to stop in the pass. We booked in at the Best Western grabbed our cameras and walked over to the pier for dinner just in time for Colors.

  • Big Sur: PART IX

I don't know the boundaries for the place they call Big Sur and by now I may have left it far behind but I call this Big Sur in good faith. Today, a beach of a different kind. A special kind. How can it not be. This one was spectacular. To hear the waves stirring was to say the least different. Imagine...

  • Big Sur: PART VII

One of the joys of not researching the area of intended travel is the discovery of places. One such gem is Point Piedras Blancas north of Morro Bay. The Elephant Seal rookery was completely unknown to us. What a joy to stumble upon a beach full of wild animals basking in the sun.
